Our client is on the market for an Assistant Mine Planner. The desired candidate is required to provide technical mine planning expertise and guidance for site operations, projects and the Technical Services team.
The role involves working independently and with limited supervision in one or more of the following areas:
· Mine engineering studies
· Strategic and life of mine planning
· Resource and Reserve calculations
· Mine engineering support
· Regulatory compliance
Management of consultants and contractors as required.

Job Responsibilities
· Strategic mine planning and budgeting.
· Preparation of engineering studies
· Preparation of resource and reserve estimates for life of mine planning purposes.
· Support corporate feasibility study efforts and technical due diligence including preparation of mine designs, mining costs and mine schedules.
· Promote collaboration across functional teams and consider the business impact of decisions on diverse groups;
· Influence others to achieve project goals.
· Appraise mining methods, processing methods, operating cost, capital spending, production schedules, dilution and ore loss.
· Identify key engineering and mining success factors and issues that could impact the economic viability of the mine plans and mine design.
· Design and develop processes, practices and methodologies in engineering and ensure alignment with the organization’s long-term strategy.
· Initiate and undertake projects to optimize performance within engineering and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards. Contribute to the development of the mine planning processes.
· Develop and maintain excellent rapport with external stakeholders
· Implement industry best health and safety practices
· Support continuous improvement efforts.
· Perform technical audits to support business decisions and ensure compliance with statutory regulation as per legislation requirements.
· Carry out all typical mine engineering functions required for mine operation and project studies. These functions are not limited to but include mine and waste dump design, haulage and equipment hour calculations, tactical and strategic scheduling.
· Analyze information and prepare technical documents to support decision making; present recommendations and provide status updates to key stakeholders
· Actively communicate information related to engineering best practices and professional development
Mentor junior team members
Education and Experience
· Bachelor of Science in geology, mining engineering or a related field.
· Eligible for registration as a professional engineer or professional designation in the appropriate area of expertise
· Member of a recognized professional body
· 5+ years of related work experience or equivalent
· Demonstrable experience in a range of mining environments.
· Proven track record of success through collaboration
· Strong experience with regards to strategic planning and budgeting.
· Knowledgeable of metals and the mining industry including current best practice and innovation.
· Led or participated in the Mine engineering studies (Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility and Due Diligence)
· Delivered quality outputs for all typical mine engineering tasks including optimization, design, scheduling and reporting.
