Job Purpose
The Stores Controller will be responsible for establishing and managing the mine stores function by ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, control, and issuance of all mining equipment, spare parts, fuel, consumables, explosives accessories (where applicable), PPE, and general materials required for mining and processing operations. The role is critical in maintaining accurate inventory records, preventing stock losses, and ensuring uninterrupted operations through effective stock management.
Key Responsibilities
Establish and implement stores management systems and procedures for the start-up mining operation.
Receive, inspect, and record all incoming materials, equipment, spare parts, and consumables.
Verify deliveries against purchase orders and delivery notes.
Maintain accurate inventory records using manual or computerized inventory management systems.
Issue stock only against approved requisitions and maintain proper documentation.
Monitor stock levels and initiate timely replenishment requests to avoid stock-outs.
Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly stock reconciliations and cycle counts.
Coordinate periodic physical stock takes and investigate inventory variances.
Manage fuel inventory and maintain accurate records of fuel receipts, issues, and balances.
Ensure proper storage and preservation of mining spares, electrical equipment, lubricants, tools, and consumables.
Maintain minimum and maximum stock levels for critical mining and plant spares.
Work closely with Procurement, Finance, and Maintenance departments to ensure efficient inventory control.
Prepare monthly inventory reports, stock movement reports, and consumption analysis.
Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and damaged stock and recommend appropriate action.
Ensure all company assets issued from stores are properly recorded and accounted for.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping and organization within the stores.
Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and mining safety standards.
Experience and Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Supply, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field.
Professional qualification such as CIPS will be an added advantage.
Minimum 3 years' experience as a Stores Controller or Storekeeper in a gold mining environment.
Experience working in a start-up mining operation will be an added advantage.
Sound knowledge of mining consumables, engineering spares, plant equipment, and mobile machinery components.
Experience in fuel management and inventory control.
Experience using computerized inventory or ERP systems will be an added advantage.
