Our client, a well-established organization in the food and retail industry, is seeking to hire a Butchery Assistant to join their team. This position is designed for a high-potential candidate who will be developed into a future Butchery Specialist, forming part of the organization’s talent pipeline. With the current specialist approaching retirement, the successful candidate will be groomed as a possible successor, ensuring continuity and expertise in the butchery division.
Main Purpose of the Role
To support daily butchery operations while learning advanced techniques and commercial practices. The role focuses on value addition, profitability optimization, and adherence to food hygiene standards, with the long-term goal of progressing into a specialist leadership position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meat preparation and portioning with precision, ensuring maximum value from each cut.
- Apply knife skills to process meat efficiently and safely.
- Maintain hygiene standards and comply with food safety regulations at all times.
- Identify opportunities to reduce losses and maximize returns from various cuts.
- Innovate commercial practices that enhance profitability and customer satisfaction.
- Train and coach blockmen to improve skills and performance.
- Assist in stock management and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Support succession planning by developing expertise to step into the Butchery Specialist role.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) O-Level passes.
- Strong understanding of meat cuts and their contribution to profitability.
- Excellent knife skills (mandatory).
- Sound knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices.
- Experience in loss reduction and maximizing returns from cuts.
- Innovative, commercially minded, and able to think beyond conventional practices.
- Team spirit, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
